The spare cylinder head I am working on has now been completely stripped ,at least 4 valves had to be driven out still seized to the valve guides but all the guide holes in the head seem fine,I managed to get out the remains of the bypass stub and again the thread in the head is fine,2 spark plugs were also very tight but eventually came out again the threads are fine, but my question is please I have clocked the cylinder head face with a DTI clock on a ground face plate and over the total length of the head there is .002 of an inch variation is this OK or does it need a regrind .I intend to get a local engineering company to just reface the valve sealing faces after I have fitted new guides

My advice for what it is worth is to have the head lightly skimmed whilst it is with the engineering firm having the valve seats done. Better to do it now than have to strip it all out again if the head gasket fails. Look at the extra expense as an insurance policy :D
