Hi all,

I'm looking to find out the degrees for the avantzo ? (I don't even know if I pronounced it correctly)
The thing is my MM Series is very slow. It does not accelerate as before. Even if I floor it to put the 4th gear, as soon as I put the 4th gear it slows down a lot so I have to put 3rd gear. It does not accelerate as it used to. So I'm guessing there must be something wrong with the timings or the avantzo is not correctly on the degrees as it should be.

I'd appreciate any information\advise on this matter.

The original timing was top dead centre but that was 60 years ago when engines ran on low octane poor quality petrol. Today you should be able to run more advance.
Have you done anything to the engine before the loss of power?
Check that the engine is firing on all four cylinders
Check the spark plug gaps
Check that the spark plugs are all tight
Check the distributor points gap
Check compression is equal on all four cylinders, if not then it may be a blown head gasket
What distributor are you using, DKYH4A, DM2, 25D?
Check that the distributor is tight
Slacken distributor clamp bolt and rotate distributor slowly either way until you get the fastest tickover
Tighten the bolt and mark the position of the distributor
Test run the car up a hill, rotate the distributor slightly one way an see if there is any improvement then try the other way
eventually you should find the best position.
Please send me the information and chassis number for the car so that I can add it to the register

the car is at the mechanic now. I found a mechanic that knows about old cars.

Question about fuel. Do I have to use a "Substi-Plomb Lead Substitute" in the gasoline? My cousin has a Volvo 122s and he doesn't use it and the car is running fine.

by the way, the distributor says DKY4A, not DKYH4A.

I expect that you only drive the Morris gently and not many kilometres so it will be all right to use unleaded petrol. It takes a lot of hard driving to do any damage. If you can find any leaded petrol or lead substitute you can put some in the tank, it helps lubricate the valve seats.
Make sure that your mechanic uses the settings on the Series MM website, Technical Information
