Grease is The Word...

Post by Finn »

Something tells me that, after three weeks of blissful ownership(well..yes, there was the small matter of a new petrol tank, sender unit, petrol pump and overflowing float-chamber...) that I had better crawl under and grease. So, could any of you (please) give me the skinny on types of grease needed for various jobs. I have read previous posts on grease-guns - and think I will take my chances with Halfwits...I mean Halfords - so what should I look for?

Thanks

Finn

(oh! ...and type (brand) of brake fluid that I will need)

Cheers

grease

Use Castrol LM or equivalent, all that is necessary is that it is stated
as suitable for wheel bearings(high melting point) this is ok for all
grease nipples on the Minor,

And use DOT4 brake fluid. All available in Halfords.......

I bought a gallon of Halford's own brand DOT4 brake fluid as I was going to use so much of it messing about with complete braking systems on a few cars.......

Finn,

Check for your local non-H car stores (e.g. Motor Discount Centre) - I was able to buy a grease gun for about £6.00.

I also bought a small cheap one for about £3.00 just for the steering rack (uses EP 90 oil via a grease nipple).

If you can, buy one with a flexible tube - or 90 dregree nipples for the suspension system!

You can also use dot 5.1 but not the silicon dot 5. Don't forget that it picks up moisture once you've opened it so don't buy too much, it'll be useless after it's sat on your shelf for a year!
