Relocating Wiper Motor?

Hi all,
My car's wiper motor is presently located behind the passenger glove box and although it is fairly easy to access it is mounted on a Heath Robinson pedestal type mount held in place with two small nuts and bolts to the glove box floor which results in the actual mount moving slightly to an fro when the wipers are switched on and a consequent loss of motion at the wheelboxes.
I understand that the motor should be mounted behind the dash panel towards the drivers side and having obtained the correct mounting plate and rubber fittings I was wondering if it would be possible to fit the motor in the engine bay like later models - it would be so much easier!
Has anyone done this with a series 2 or am I doomed to rummage behind the dash to fit the damn thing! :( :-?

That is a new place to fit it. On the Series MM and early Series II the motor is behind the inst. panel on the driver's side. I assumed that it was in the same place behind the driver's glove box on the late Series II. The original fitting is a plate fixed to the motor, with three rubber mounts screwed to a bracket which is secured to the "shelf" behind the instruments by four nuts and bolts. The rubber mounts can sheer off the plate causing the wiper motor to move around and in turn cause the wipers to flop about. It is easier to access the motor by removing the steering wheel and instrument panel and care should be taken to avoid dropping nuts and bolts down the A post
It should be possible to fit a mounting bracket to the inner wing and a 948 wiper system in the engine compartment

Hmmmmm..... food for thought. I intend to remove the steering column for repainting in the Summer so I will fit the motor in it's rightful position at the same time, many thanks Michael. :D

I assume that the original holes for the mounting bracket must still be there behind the instrument panel so I may have a look next week.
Does anyone have a photo of the motor in situ showing the correct state of assembly and orientation?

It looks like the motor mounts beneath the bracket between the sides judging by the triangular piece and secures at the top plate - is this correct?
Also I assume that one of the wheelboxes would need to be inverted to allow the two blades to rise correctly?

Correct
Correct
All the bolts on the wheel boxes should be tight to prevent movement of the rack and therefor uneven movement of the wiper blades

Excellent, thanks for the advice Michael.
I will have the first aid kit on standby when I delve into the dash next week! :D :D
