Any past recollections of Tourer APV 480? Old paperwork?

Post by busguy »

Has anyone owned, or has recollections of, a Thames blue side valve Minor Tourer registered APV 480, pre-1989. I am on the long and difficult path of trying to obtain an old log book, tax disc, MOT certificate with chassis number/reg number on it, or any other documentation for this vehicle to prove the original identity. It was new in Ipswich, and found its way to Kent by the late 1980's. Currently registered RSU 323 by DVLA in 1989.

Long shot! Has the MMOC membership records of member's vehicles a facility to search cars by registration number? I joined in 1988, and my Minor at the time 929 XMU was recorded with reg number, chassis number, etc.

Any help would be much appreciated.

If you are a current member of the MMOC you could always ask if they have the records. Office details in Minor Matters.

Is APV 480 on another vehicle?
Further investigations uncovered it was an inside job!!

Hi Chris
No. Not on DVLA system, or the congestion charge system where they will tell you if it is on another make of car. Not had a cherished transfer, or been another 'barn' stored car, as DVLA replaced it with RSU 323 in 1989. At the time, not accepted as enough info supplied to support putting that APV reg vehicle id on their computer.
Hence my difficult task to find a few missing links! I will contact the MMOC office if nothing else comes up. Don't want to bother them unless I have to.

Is the dealer recorded on the Heritage Certificate?

Presumably no chassis number recorded against the regn entry
in Ipswich records?

Yes, I have got the dealer's details from Heritage info, but they are long gone. Lock and Stagg Ltd, Ipswich, were taken over by Henlys years ago.
No chassis number records at Ipswich Records office for vehicles after 1950, and this is a 1951!

What was the date of despatch from Cowley/date of regn.?

How many other Minor's were regd. in APV, are models/colours
recorded?

Do all the numbers on the vehicle match the Heritage Certificate?

Do you have the name of the person who owned it in 1989?

See whether MMOC have any record of it, if not let me know.

What was the date of despatch from Cowley/date of regn.? Date of despatch 31/7/51- Date of registration not known.
How many other Minor's were regd. in APV, are models/colours recorded? Only 834 APV regs in total were used in 1951, but I do not know of any records that are available. Bet there were only single figures tourers in that period though. The reg number usage would indicate that APV 480 would be allocated in August '51. The car was delivered to Ipswich dealer on 31/7/51, so the process indicates the car reg date matches in with the Heritage factory timescale.
Do all the numbers on the vehicle match the Heritage Certificate? Yes.
Do you have the name of the person who owned it in 1989? I have the name of the person that submitted the log book application to DVLA but nobody before that. Owned by a convertibles dealer in Jan '89.
See whether MMOC have any record of it, if not let me know. I have written to Derby twice regarding possibly tracing the chassis number through membership records, ...... and had no reply either time. Maybe a registration number is easier to trace. I will write again.

How did you arrive at APV 480?

I need all info you have if I'm to take this one on.

Hi Chris
I applied for list of owners from DVLA. It only goes back to 1989, but on the original application for a V5 the old number was visible, but crossed out by DVLA. Obviously the evidence presented was not enough for them to grant a V5 at that time. More information seems to be available nowadays if you search hard enough to prove it's history. I am not there yet with this, but I'm sure the evidence is out there. Everything adds up to it being the number, I just need the proof. I can email you a copy.

Is the colour recorded alongside the entry.

Also, is the name of the first recorded keeper listed?

How many other Tourers regd in '51.

Questions questions
