Novice - expert advice required please!
Hi everyone,
I would like to buy myself a Morris Minor 1000, unfortunately my knowledge is very limited and extends only to three days internet research thus far. I am located in Carlisle, Cumbria and wondered if there were any local/non local members willing to put up with a millions questions and also to give me some direction with my eventual purchase.
I would like to use the car for general local use and the occasional country drive with my husband and dog. One thing I am concerned about is it won't be garaged or sheltered - will this be a problem ie for the bodywork, rust etc?
Thanks a lot, Kelly

Hi Welcome! Try the MMOC Cumbria branch Contact Neil McGurk 019zero0 82four723 A branch member may be able to give you a guided tour of their car and advice on purchasing a car. They may even know of a car for sale.

In Cumbria - a Minor will not fare well (esp in winter) if not garaged - or at v least kept under a shelter of some form. RUST is the huge enemy of the Minor, I'm afraid.

If you get a good car, and then make sure that it is rust-proofed regularly. and washed after use on salted roads. then it should be fine outside - many of us use the cars every day regardless of the weather. You will have to make some repairs at some time, but that's no reason to not enjoy the car. If not used a lot, then you can get breathable car covers that will protect the paintwork from sap, birds, etc.
Good luck with the search, I hope that you find the right car.

great advice to join your local branch for info friendly help and local cars for sale.
I also agree with the above post. A Minor can live outside and be OK, but you need to ensure two things:-
1) No leaking water into the car- all rubbers, screen, door etc must be good.
2) wax, wax, wax! Cavity wax to keep the rust at bay in sills, chassis legs and door pillars (and the doors themselves), underbody wax underneath and a good carnauba wax to protect the paintwork.

Cheers John - all comments IMHO

Re: Novice - expert advice required please!
If you can ,have a test drive of one before you buy, they are nothing like a modern, you may not like it.
Re: Novice - expert advice required please!
What's not to 'like' about a Minor??? They are older and therefore very different - but surely always likable....until they stop working, of course......

Re: Novice - expert advice required please!
still worth a test drive, depends if she has only ever driven a small.or large modern wasn't there somone on here a while ago who bought a ser 11 and complained at length about the handling and performance, in London traffic,I think

That would explain why I could never find the PAS fluid resevoir on my Minor's!!
Further investigations uncovered it was an inside job!!
