engine numbers

Post by boris the morris »

Greetings Chaps,

Can anyone help ; I have an A series engine that came out of a 1962 Saloon. The number is: DBL50E 60884 There is also a letter E which has been stamped on the plate, which does look original. I have tried the usual sources but cannot identify it. There is nothing in the castings, other than MOWOG that may help. There is also a transfer on the rocker cover with the word DELTA thereon.

Many thanks.

Probably a 'gold seal' unit (is there any evidence of gold or silver paint anywhere?) this means that, at some stage, the engine has been reconditioned by BMC.

Probably reconditioned by "DELTA", whoever that is, and they replaced the plate w/their own.

It's certainly not a Works engine number. Google is your friend..... Probably these people! http://www.yellowpages.com.au/vic/shepp ... sting.html What do you need to know about the engine - is it a 948 or a 1098?
