Search on
http://www.duracell.co.uk and go to their technical library product downloads for all their batteries information.

Hi,
If you're looking at alkaline non-rechargeable batteries then work on 2500 - 2800mAh.
For nickel metal hydride rechargeables these tend to have a maximum capacity these days of 2800mAh but can be as low as 780mAh.

Certainly in this country - you pretty much get what you pay for! A 10 pack of Zinc/carbon batteries from the 'Poundshop' may be as low as 500mAh.....but actually the Alkaline type (6 for £1) are very good value and usually around 2000mAh - not as good as Duracell - but nowhere near the price either....... And they CAN be 'recharged' a few times too - in a special charger. Another quick guide is the weight of the battery - light batteries are low mAh and heavy are much better! Why do you need to know Sandun? They won't power your Minor...........

BMC, I think you need to add a healt and safety disclaimer regarding re-charging (or potentially over charging) alkaline batteries. Nobody wants potassium hydroxide on their hands. Safety glasses, rubber gloves and a white lab coat should be a minimum

It's a special charger that is sold for the job.....works well and no leaking chemicals. no safety risk... been doing it for 10+ years. It shows the capacity of each battery when finished - and after a few turns they have to be thrown away (sorry - recycled!

) as only holding a negligible charge....

Probably not. 1.2 times however many cells it takes might not be enough V for the camera to work.
Check what the manual says about it. If you don't have the manual you may be able to find it online.

Sandun please explain what you are trying to do?What type of camera? What voltage should the camera need?Where are you wanting to use it in the car or at home?We can't help you with the amount of information you have provided.

I believe the camera only takes 2 X AA cells - so normal rechargeable cells will be no use. However good quality Alkaline cells and even better NIckel Hydride cells will be best for the job - and with the proper charger - they CAN be recharged a few times - losing some capacity each time each time, until they are only fit for a less demanding purpose.

Hi Sandun,
Your camera will work with 1.2v AA rechargeable batteries.
Rechargeable batteries and standard alkaline batteries have very different discharge characteristics. A rechargeable - nickel metal hydride etc - will maintain a voltage of 1.2v until almost the very end of its life and then reduce in voltage very rapidly.
An alkaline battery has a linear voltage drop over its life, meaning that by the time 1/4 of its life has gone then its voltage is already down to 1.2v and constantly reducing with use.
Electronic equipment manufacturers know this fact and design their products accordingly. I know this from 27 years working in electronics!
I hope this helps,
Alex

Alex (and Sandun) - we have a digital camera that only takes 2 X AA. Even with the very best /highest capacity brand new rechargeables - it lasts no time at all due to the inherent lower voltage of the cells. It needs the very best Nickel Hydride batteries - and even then it doesn't last long. As a result -it's never used now - the world has moved on and puts a perfectly good camera in my phone (and my tablet, and my laptop..).

What make and age of camera is it?
If a camera has not got 36MP I don't class it as a good camera

Hi Sandun,
Just found the user manual on line and it does say 2 x AA (alkaline) batteries so best play safe and use them.
I'm sure others will agree.

Oh it's a few years old now Alex - don't even know where it is at the moment - but it was a huge disappointment when it was bought due to the hopeless battery life. I'm not a photographer - I just take 'memorable pictures' (mostly of trains I'm sure you will be glad to here - I notice you are a keen 'trainspotter'

) for which my available cameras are 'perfectly good'....
