Hello all, I have just bought a lovely little 1968 minor 1000. The front drivers door needs hanging, the previous owner gave me the heavy duty pins. Is this an easy job, would like to tackle it myself if possible? Thanks in advance.[frame]

dead easy this is how to do it . lifting the doors off and refitting them is a two man operation though . an impact driver would be a useful tool as well

Getting the screws out can be a MAJOR task... Exactly what is the problem with the door - just wear on the hinge pins? Is the panel where the hinge attaches good and solid? Could you perhaps attach some pictures of the problem?

It is possible to fit a door by yourself. I attach the reconed hinges to the door, I have made up some door hinge locating studs from cut down 5/16bsf bolts. approx 1 1/2 " studs with a slot cut in the top. Screw the locating studs into the A pillar hinge plates, one at the top one at the bottom. Then locate door and door hinge onto locating studs, Fit door bolts to the remaining hinge holes, finally unscrew locating studs and fit the final door mounting bolts. Can get adjust door position before final tightening of locating bolts...

Very good simple idea
Beats using wooden blocks to support door

Great, thanks for your time and info. I had a look today and it looks like someone has sprayed over the hinges and bolts, think it will be hard to get them out? The door seems almost bent? Here is a photo of it closed, it's definately dropped and hard to close.[frame]

Try adjusting the socket plate and the catch on the B pillar. You can undo the screws and move them in a bit, then tighten up the screws.

It may not be necessary in your case, but shim plates for the hinges are inexpensively available from the Minor specialists.

When you release the handle - how much does the door drop?

Before you remove the door try the screws/bolts because if you can undo them there is no need to remove the door completely.
If they are free:-
Undo the door opening restrictor rod from the door post, open the door fully making sure that the door does not foul against the front wing; pack or place a jack under the end of the door, remove one hinge, repair as necessary and refit. Repeat with other hinge. Make sure that you put some copper ease on the screws/bolts when refitting. Once both hinges are repaired and refitted final adjustment can take place. Having one hinge in its original position helps in setting the other hinge when re-fitting. If the screws/bolts are seized that is a different matter and you may have to resort to removing the door to get them free. Give the hinge screws/bolts a good soaking in release oil before attempting to undo them.
Good luck.

I use thick 6" nails as an aid to alignment. Pass them through the bolt holes in the hinges & into the hinge pillar to locate the captive plate. Once it's all located, take the nails out one at a time and replace them with the bolts.

Fabulous, thanks all, I shall give it a go as it has been letting in rain water and the carpet and floor is now soaked although due to the nicer weather that seems to be drying out. Only had the car two days and am already in love! Cheers folks

Your next job, by the sound of it, is to get all the carpet out and hang it in the sunshine!

On closer inspection it looks as though the door just doesn't fit very well as it seems to stick out all round, prob not the original door and the bottom of the interior looks bulky, perhaps due to rust and filler. New door perhaps needed perhaps. The passenger door won't seem to lock either, that door is completely rusted at the bottom, not unusual I believe!

It's not usual for a 'door' to let in a lot of water - unless you are daft enough to live on a 'flood plain' of course... Consider other routes for that water to have penetrated the car....
