You would use the original number if the engine was reconditioned at home, so what's the difference? I would say none! Besides, who on earth would know/care?---there may be a slim chance that the original number is in use somewhere but------

As far as DVLA etc are concerned -you don't NEED an engine number! And it won't make the car one penny more valuable if it 'has' the original engine (number) fitted.

was just asking but maybe ill leave as is just wanted to know others thoughts the gold seal engine is not in the car anymore its one I bought from irmsher on here

What are the details of your car?
Might be easier to obtain an engine of similar age(?)
