So ebay has five really good Traveller projects, an excellent Smoke Grey rat look, 2 Trafalgar Blues (one with spare wood), a nice original green one and a rather strange yellow one. (Still no Black or Rose Taupe).

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/271412417901? ... 1423.l2649

It was on ebay a couple of weeks ago with only two bidders then they didn't collect, it's also on Classics for sale at £2000.

I asked the owner what the sills, inner wings and crossmember were like, the condition of the wood and the MOT advisories. I also asked about the history of the rare yellow paint.
He answered there were 3 minor advisories (but provided no details), the wood needed cosmetic attention (is that a revarnish or a rebuild) and he didn't even mention the yellow. So based on these sketchy answers, the very basic description and the poor photos, I didn't bid or arrange to view it.

However, it looks interesting, it's MOT'd and if it's structurally sound I could retrim / respray it, however I do like yellow.
Being such a distinctive car, has anybody ever seen it or can give a better description than the owner ![frame]Image[/frame]

The reason I asked him about the colour was because Highway Yellow was listed as a Traveller colour in the late 50's but this is a 1960's car. There are no interior pictures bit you can just see the dash is yellow, as is the under body. Therefore, it may have been some kind of works vehicle with an interesting history, or it could have had a half decent respray in the past. Shame he never bothered to answer my questions.
In the photo's the wood looks stained, like it is painted with oil, again the owner gave very little information. But I was wondering, if it has been protected with some nasty creosote or old engine oil, could it be sanded down and bleached to be revarnished properly ???
It would be interesting to know your views of the car as I am in Sheffield and the car is in Gloucester. It's along way to go to view a car that may be a shed. Obviously a long phonecall may be due.

The ebay ad says that some of the wood has rotted. It is difficult to tell from the photos but if the wood has been left unprotected it would look dark due to the damp getting to it. Wood replacement isn't cheap so this would need to be checked over thoroughly.

By the way, Highway Yellow was used for only a short time in '61 - '62 and was never used on travellers.

Well spotted LouiseM, with a quick look, the ebay advert looked the same however when you read it closer, he has now added that the wood has rotted. This explains why the original bidder walked away. It is also annoying he described the wood work in my message as needing cosmetic attention.
I am no longer interested in this, I'm fully aware the cost of wood replacement so will hold out for a better car at more money. Thanks for your observations.

Tysonn - the car in Sheffield was actually not bad. It needed complete rear inner wheel arches, rear jacking points, the front sills underneath needed a better inspection and the wood could have been cobbled together to last a couple of years longer. The interior and paintwork was very nice. Bottom of the doors and front wings were starting to rust. Mechanical condition was unknown but it was driving when she parked it up, I expect the clutch and brakes would have needed work.

Now it's sold, I'm happy to share what really happened.
I rang the day it went on the web, like half the UK, to find out more information. The next day I organised a viewing and she told me on the phone she had been offered £750. Then when I turned up to view she told me she had had a few offers over £1000. She had no interest in selling the car for £500 (as advertised), understandable but not honest. After seeing the car I calculated it would cost £2300 to get on the road (if I could get it for £825) and then need wood in 2yrs. After a long hard think, I decided not to bid, the car was not the colour I wanted, the wood would still need doing in 2 yrs, I was unsure if the clutch or inner sills needed doing and I totally didn't agree with the way she was selling the car. However, during that weekend, I had the ebay bid page loaded 3 times. !

Thanks for your help, I will find a car soon, it's not for trying.

Remember the nice shiny 2009 photo she posted, well here is a what it actually looked like,[frame]Image[/frame]

The white Traveller on Ebay in Derby "Showing 14000 MILES!!" is 1961 with a black speedo. I suggested to the guy he correct his ad as the speedo is a replacement but he wasn't having any. (Selling for somebody else, reg no worth £1500 (no MOT), Restored Travellers sell for £10k+ etc etc.....). Caveat Wotsit.

Some right cons on Ebay you have to be very careful as most are dealers at home looking for big profit .The other con is a bargain with the seller having zero feedback and no phone number so you email them so they can scam you

So here's the latest Traveller (s) I missed,

These were for sale as a joint pair on Gumtree, in Newark Notts for £2000. The seller wouldn't split, I got the additional photos, enquired about trailer costs, even got the price down to £1700 and now they are sold. The joys of full time work.

Both cars were virtually complete, both cars had red interiors. The plan was to get the blue one on the road, then respray it black. The green one would then be sold (or I may have kept the wood as spare), they even had loads of spare panels. Someone got a bargin, both cars seemed to have good wood. The light green car was actually MOD, ex army, they had the plate for the bulkhead and it was on a P reg.

Did someone on the forum purchase them, if you did, do you want to sell the Blue one ?[frame]Image[/frame]
