Did you know?

I just received a letter saying that even though my car is taxed, it is un-insured and therefore I may be committing an offence, even though it's in a thousand pieces off-road and in my shed.
I always believed that an off-road car with a valid tax disc didn't need to be SORN, but apparently the law changed a couple of years back. Be warned, if you take your car off road when the insurance expires, you'll need to declare it SORN, even if it's taxed.
Sorry if this is not news to anyone but I thought I mention it as it was a surprise to me

Yes, any uninsured car needs to be on SORN.
It's to clamp down on the millions on uninsured cars on the road.

yes thats the way it is now, anything that is taxed must have insurance, so if your insurance runs out and you dont intend to renew/use the car you must surrender the tax and S.O.R.N. it.
also coming very soon (not a lot of people know this) when the paper tax disc stops, you cant sell your car with the tax on it, you have to surrender it and the new owner has to buy his own.
it will make buying 2nd cars (getting them home) even more of a pain

I guess you can do a deal with the new owner to only complete the sale when he gets it 'home' - and posts off the tax disc for you - give him the form /envelope/stamp - or can it be 'surrendered' on line - surely so - when there is no physical tax disc? Just get him to let you know when he safely arrives home - and do the job online.

I also believe that returned tax will now be credited on a daily basis instead of whole months also I think there is talk of a 2 day amnesty to enable the new owner to get the required tax
