Glovebox Clock Refurb
Posted: Thu Feb 27, 2014 7:50 pm
I bought an "untested" clock suitable for a Series MM Glovebox lid (see thread under For Sale). I believe this clock may have come from a Series MO dashboard as it has clear body sections to allow light in (from instrument lights) to backlight the face.
Clock as obtained from an eBay seller (and already being stripped).[frame]
[/frame]
Clock mech removed from case, case fully stripped and clean begins - mech back in case and now we can read the embossed instructions on the back[frame]
[/frame]
Loads of problems in getting the electric mechanism to work - had to clean very small electrical contact surfaces, use some watch oil (sparingly) on arbors, remove lint and other dross and connected up to a temporary power supply (A Marshall II model power controller made by Meccano!).[frame]
[/frame]IT IS ALIVE! and to show that the blur is actual motion, below is the mech with power cut[frame]
[/frame]Bench testing prior to reassembling into case[frame]
[/frame]
All back together and being run off the transformer at approximately 12v DC, 30 minutes into test running (this evening real time)[frame]
[/frame]
Glovebox view BEFORE (taken this morning)[frame]
[/frame]and a "dry fitting test" AFTER, also this morning, prior to getting the clock working[frame]
[/frame]
I've now got to wire it into the car.
Regards, George.
