Fuel gauge in speedo

Does any body know if you can fit the 64 onwards fuel dial into a late splitscreen speedo so that you can use the later fuel sender?

Or is life easier to just buy the whole 64 onwards speedo. I currently run a digital kitcar speedo that runs off the prop shaft so mileage etc means nothing.

Actually whilst I'm on this, I'm putting in a brand new engine, gearbox etc is it possible to zero a speedo so I get services bang on the money. I know of them stories about dodgey people running drill in reverse to sell there cars at lower mileage but Is this true? Ha ha, I suppose only the dodgey people will know!

Cheers

You can do both, a black fuel gauge can be fitted to a gold speedo and vice versa, but a black fuel gauge must always be fitted with a voltage stabiliser.
I took the face off a black fuel gauge and swapped it for a gold fuel gauge face, as I wanted a gold speedo in my '61 which uses a later wiring loom. It works well enough, the position of E and F is slightly different I think but you know when it's full and when it needs some more. This might be an option for you?
I later put a black speedo in my Minor but kept the gold faced fuel gauge, it initially annoyed me but it shows up better in the dark with the gold face so I've yet to change it

If you use a drill - the only way to 'zero' the speedo is to run the miles up to 99,999 and then over the top back to 00,000 - and yes to do this the drill must run in reverse. It will take a LONG time...... But if you have the patience......... The normal way is to very carefully 'fiddle' the numbers over to zero using a toothpick - something like that. But you do risk damaging the odometer if not very careful..
