Introduced in 1963 I believe - along with the 1098 engine.

Just checked 'Original Morris Minor' and it also states alongside introduction of the 1098cc engine.

This makes me wonder if any of the 'transitional' Minors made during that time were fitted with 948 engines and 8 inch drums as standard... something else to look out for at shows... I'll make sure I wear my anorak as I lay down to look underneath the car

My Late transitional 1098 (1st reg 2 Jan 64, so obviously a 63 build...) has 8" drums.

803 in 1963? I think they would be long gone! Sure it wasn't a (now rare) 848?

No, it was an 803, the GPO never fitted the 948, they went straight from 803 to 1098
