Well here goes, I can't weld and I can't paint but hey ho look what turned up today!!!!! Oh well in for a penny in for a pound as they say. I am going to attempt to put this traveller back on the road, I have set myself no time limit for this project and hopefully kind of teach myself as I go. It was an ebay purchase and to be honest the floor and rear arches have little rust and have had some repairs already as it was a unfinished restoration project, the worst part is the passenger side gutter which has rotted away and the passenger side sill is badly corroded. I think with little time and a lot of patience and maybe a few pointers from some people we may see her back on the road

Good luck with your project, at least with it being stripped down so much you shouldnt find any nasty surprises!

Had a liitle nosey around today, took plugs out and engine turns over freely by hand which is a good sign. Will hook up a battery over the weekend and do a compression test. Had a good look at the underneath and it seems that the rear panel and spring hangers have been replaced but the front hangers are shot as well as both sills and some parts of the floor, but the inner wings on the front and back have had repair panel welded in and primered and look reasonably ok. Also the front chassis rails look fine with no sign of any rust.

11 weeks after purchase and a total garden change around to accommodate a new 10 x 8 shed to house all the motorbikes and garage stuff, Gabrielle is finally out from under the tarpaulin and in the garage. Can't wait to start working on her [frame][/frame][/frame]

5 months after putting her away in the garage due to work commitments, holidays and just general not having a minute to spare, today was the first time for some proper work. Out with the engine[frame][/frame][frame][/frame]

You have managed to find yourself a really good starting point, judging from the pictures. You can indeed learn as you go as most of us self taught guys did. A lot of the help and advice you will need can be found here and also on other websites like http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/

Well I have finally completed my first ever bit of welding on "Gabby" cut out all the rust from the scuttle and replaced with new metal, hopefully before and after pics below[frame][/frame][frame][/frame]
