Could anyone please tell me how the pipe from the bottom of the float chamber to the jet is supposed to be secured at the float chamber end. On mine there is a nut which it would seem should hold it in place - infact it does nothing, the pipe just pulls straight through the nut and out of the float chamber.

If it is the HS2 type there should be a ferrule on the end of the pipe which is squeezed between the float chamber body and the nut and holds the pipe in place.
I would suggest that you need a new jet pipe assy. Bull Motif Pt No: CRB109 £13.00

A small o-ring or 2 works well.

Just one normally. You can use one of the rubber rings that you didn't use on the exhaust valves.

Yes - it is surely a wee rubber ring....not sure if the ex valve ring will be fuel proof - but worth a try!

This is one area that does not warrant a self help/non original solution. If fuel leaks onto the hot exhaust and catches fire - no telling what the end result would/could be.
Better to buy a new and correct carb jet/pipe assembly and be certain that all will be ok. It is not worth trying to cut corners/save a few pounds especially when it involves petrol and heat.

It works perfectly well, the rubber doesn't degrade any faster than the original.
I wouldn't have suggested it otherwise.

Each to their own but personally and for my own peace of mind I would only use original equipment or same spec after market parts.
