advice needed engine conversion

hi all
just bought my wife a 64 two door and was wondering what you have to do fit a 2.0 zetec engine i know change the rear axle etc but what i want know is how you mount engine also do you have to cut the bulkhead etc

Welcome to the forum - budget for ~ £2/3000....and yes - the bulkhead needs to be modified quite considerably... And of course - the front brakes and suspension need upgrading too...another £1000 or so. You sure your wife needs all this power??

If your doing it yourself - then thats the sort of money required with 2nd hand parts (if you can find them). But it also depends on whether you are going down the injection or carb route.

If you want someone to do it for you (e.g. JLH) it will cost much much more.

I'm part way through a conversion and I am fabricating as much as I can (or a friend is) to keep costs down. I am probably at around £1500 invested and the car is still in pieces.

cheers guys already got the engine and gearbox from a capri from another car i was building but i went v8 route i was going keep it injection and going convert it to disc brakes all round just stuff like electrics that scare me on modern stuff

opps my mistake gearbox is from a capri and engine is from a focus was putting them in my ford 300e van

Oh well - if you have these bits then just axle/prop and front brakes etc to do. Another £1500 should do it - and a couple of evenings with the cutting and welding gear....... Do a write-up on it as you go along!

My project has stalled at the moment - because I have had to tidy up and there is a paid job in my workshop in the way.

The engine is mounted further back than most to try and get the weight distribution a bit better. Its now (or will soon be) fitted with Marina Van hubs, princess 4 pots and a celica/corolla rear axle. The gearbox is a car one with the transit selector built in (otherwise the gearstick would be behind the seat). I have a polo estate radiator, a self fabricated water rail using a transit thermostat housing, a focus exhaust manifold with some vauxhall (astra probably) pipe welded on it to get the exhaust out of the bay. The standard ford inlet manifolds don't work, so I have an aftermarket one (which I will have to modify slightly) and I am going to be running it on megasquirt with a wideband lambda sensor.

If you want to use ford management - you need to find the ECU and engine wiring loom from a 2.0L pre 94 mondeo. The ECU codes to look for are DESK, DEWY and DEEP. After this you have an immobiliser built in to the ECU. If you want to use post 2000ish Ford wiring you need other bits too (instrument cluster for example) all wired in.

Once its all in and running it will get taken out and the remaining bodywork done. I am hoping to have it running & legal for this summer.
