Body / chassis straightening

Hi evry one this is my 1964 minor it was mates until someone crashed in to him and he couldn't face rebuilding it after he'd not long been driving it as he'd finished rebuilding / customising it I'm looking at a twisted chassis and body bent front Susspention both front wings front panel radiator front crossmember a pillar you get the picture it's bad but I couldn't see her being scraped so took her on I really need help I'm on a hair line budget and to put her on a jig is £600 for a day I've ordered new front Susspention from Charles ware and I'm looking for some front wings a radiator cowling and engine mounts if you have any of these please let me know pm me as I'm on a tight budget and time line also any tips so that I don't have to shed out a load on body shop repairs i.e. straightening[frame][/frame][frame][/frame][frame][/frame][frame][/frame][frame][/frame]

While I realise the sentiment of re building,the cost of the repairs will far out strip the final value of the car. It will certainly need jigging,plus I take it that the insurance will have written it off,therefore it will have a marker on the dvla data base to that effect therefore reducing the value further.If it was mine I think I would be spending the £600 on a straight car or shell and using all the good bits to rebuild another. But each to their own.

It will be hard work - but not impossible. New 'suspension' ??? will be the least of your worries - and I suggest you shop around before rushing to order parts......... You can make your own chassis rig from a good long I beam - some simple clamps with lengths of chain - and a pull-lift. Certainly a LOT less then £600!!!!!!

The insurance company only classed it as a cat d they didn't look at it properly quite obviously a cat c but not complaining

You could see if there are any body working courses or evening classes locally.
They often have well equipped workshops and knowledgeable people to show you how to use it.
I have done loads of welding on Minors at such places .

did y ou spend the £600 on the jigging,or did you do it yourself,be interesting to know how you did it

I did attempt to do the jig work but it turned out that it needed the left hand chassi leg pulling forward a good couple inches it did ocour to me to tie one end to tree and another to a car and pull but i saw it all going wrong so took it to abody shopand got it sorted it is now pin point straight and ready to be put back together

Also just a bit random but when the chassis top plate was off we found loads off casting iron and when looking at it it has never bee apart so guessing it has been in there since 1964 any on else have this in their chassis[frame][/frame][frame][/frame]
