Clanky? Hmm.... Could be a broken (or disconnected) tie bar.
Check to see if the bonnet, bumper, wings and front grille panel are secured correctly.
If it is more of a knucley clunk then the chances are it may be the infamous trunnions!!!
Best bet is to jack her up, remove the wheels and have a prod about with a large screwdriver and see if anything is loose, broken or different on one side of the car to the other.
