Hi everyone,
I'm after some advice please.... My 1967 saloon started pulling to the right when braking and so I decided it was time to check the brakes over. The rear brakes appear to be fine after a clean and adjusting. On the front brakes I thought the shoes looked a bit low so I fitted a new set of shoes to both sides.
The advice I'm after is this... After fitting the front shoes I adjusted them and got them to work fine but I noticed that even with new shoes fitted Ihad to take the adjuster to the limit to get them to work correctly, so I'm a bit concerned what do I do when I need to adjust them next time. Is it possible to get oversize adjusters !!! (just wondering) or could it be another issue I was thinking could it possibly be the drums and if so how do I tell
Many Thanks
Chris

Re: Brake adjustment
Pulling to the right would normally indicate sticking brake cylinders on the LEFT side. Did you check the cylinders are all free moving? As for the adjusters - take the drum off and watch the adjusters in action - and count how many clicks you get - and then compare that to the number of clicks you are getting with the drum ON. The adjusters can sometimes get 'stuck' against the shoe before getting to the end of the rotation. Also - the adjusters for the later 8" front brakes are slightly bigger than the ones for the earlier 7" front brakes (and all rear brakes...) - so it's possible you may have 8" front brakes - but with the smaller 7" type adjusters.....

Re: Brake adjustment
Ok Cheers.. What you said about the adjusters seems to make sense because I thought that the adjusters looked a bit small when I had the drum off.
I'll check them over
Many thanks

Re: Brake adjustment
Compare with a rear adjuster - they should be slightly larger if you have the 8" brakes.
