Gearbox tail shaft housing
Are the tail shaft housings identical between smooth case and ribbed versions? Thanks, John

Re: Gearbox tail shaft housing
I'm pretty sure they are NOT. I believe there are slight differences in the selector rod arrangements. But someone who really KNOWS will be along shortly - I'm sure.

Re: Gearbox tail shaft housing
The tail shaft housing Pt No: 2A3367 appears to be have been used for the 948cc smooth and the 1098cc ribbed case gearboxes. (comment amended; see posts below)
There are changes in the part numbers for the selector rods dependent upon application.
I would suggest that you look at the MOSS Europe web site http://www.moss-europe.co.uk/ and determine what you require if at all anything. They have very good exploded parts lists for smooth and ribbed gearboxes with part numbers and applications listed below.

Re: Gearbox tail shaft housing
Phil - they list a different part number (22A474) for the rear casing on the ribbed casing in the Spridget section..... Maybe that is only for the 1275 engine. On the earlier 948/1098 parts list - they don't give the rear casing a part number at all!

You are correct in that the Moss parts list quotes 22A474 for the late 1275cc Midget/Sprite gearbox rear extension and have amended my post above accordingly.
The part number 2A3367 for the 948cc/1098cc Minor gearbox extension is listed in the Moss Minor gearbox external parts section item No: 78. There are no comments/notes accompanying this parts listing other to say that it is No Longer Stocked (NLS).

Re: Gearbox tail shaft housing
Yes - but I suspect the 1098 ribbed and 1275 ribbed casings are identical - and likely need the same later tailhousing - I understand the upgrades to the Spridget late 1098 and 1275 boxes are only internal - bearings and gear angles and ratios -but frankly I'm only guessing ! (As usual, many will say.....

Re: Gearbox tail shaft housing
Regarding the main case of the gearbox (1098cc/1275cc) and taken from the Moss Parts list:-
The part number of the 1275cc main gearbox case is 38G313.
" " " " " 1098cc " " " " 6GR52.
" " " " " 948cc " " " " 28G87.
So there is obviously some difference between the 1098cc Minor main gearbox case and the 1275cc Midget/Sprite main gearbox case.
As I said in my post above there are differences in the selector rods (see Moss parts list) plus other differences that bmc alludes to in his posts.
