Does anyone know what the backing material is for the above. It looks a bit like hardboard, but is more pliable. Next question is, where can you get it?

Try Newton Commercial as they make all this kind of stuff.
Most re-trim companies should be able to provide the backing board.

i made mine out of some old mixing board we had lying around, and covered them with some old curtains, which fade between light and dark brown!

Can you please define "old mixing board". Thanks.

Well I always thought an old mixing board was what ever you had to hand to mix cement/plaster up on, that type of thing, so Iwould also like to know what mixing board is as well.

yep thats it kevin about 4/5mm thick probably not meant for mixing board,(or indeed door cards) but thats what we used it as. Its almost like cardboard, as once half cut im sure you would be able to tear it. Looks as though its made from millions of tiny fibres bonded together, although its not mdf. Its just the right flexibility as well.

Sounds like what they used to call fibreboard (I think) a stronger version of hardboard, but mdf seems to have taken over from some of the older products thanks to a certain programme.

A programme which, I gather, broadcast for the last time last night... Surely MDF = medium density fibre board? Was it some other sort of fibre board, low density or something?
