Having just replaced my Lumenition Magnetic Electronic ignition, I am concerned about getting stuck in the middle of nowhere again.

Which points distributor can I use from the local scrap yard ?, metro 1.0 ?, Mini ?

I do not have the original internals so need to scrounge some spares.

At least Icanthen quickly revert back to points setup

A perfect example of the drawback of the modern technology.
The electronic set up is undoubtedly more efficient and maintenance
free but when it develops a fault you are stranded. The ancient
Minor system needs maintenance but can be repaired by the side of the
road. I understand that these electronic systems use the same
distributor body but involve the removal of the points and capacitor
assembly??? If this is so then I assume that you only have to carry
points and a capacitor plus a rotor arm to be able to revert to original
when necessary?? Most of us carry those in the car anyway.

Hello BP,
what type of distributor do you have?, if a lateish model probably a 25D4, so yes Mini, etc will have the same base\points. The differences in distributors of the same type are the cenral rotor shaft and springs, all other parts are the same.

It's a 1968 1098 2 door saloon, so I assume it's the 25D4, how can i tell ?

Hello Steve,
have a look down at the body where the vacuum advance diaphragm enter the distributor, it should read 25D, and being a 4 cylinder hence 25D4.
