Gold speedo type fuel gauge

Hi,
Does anyone out there have a good (known to be working) fuel gauge for the earlier gold (or tin - looking) speedo, that they don't need?
I'm fed up with fiddling with mine, trying to get it to register fuel (even when the tank is full!) and I'm pretty sure it's not the sender, for one thing I've renewed it!

Did you fit the correct type of sender - for that early gauge?

Hi BMC,
I did, I ran a post, at least a year ago now, asking for advice, as the first 'new' replacement I bought was indeed the (wrong) newer version.......
If I can't find a replacement that works and as any on eBay will be used and untested / out of a breaker (which could have been sat in a field for 20 years ( 
), I may have to discretely fit a separate fuel gauge, I think I know a company where I can find a cream one, so it won't look too out of place........

If the sender works (check it with a low wattage 12 v bulb or a meter) - then the gauge should work - it's just a wee ammeter !

Thanks, as always, for the advice, you think the voltage may be low then and rechecking the connections may work??

Sage advice. 
I have now had another go through all my connections between sender and gauge, the all appear to be clean and damp free.
I'm also getting a good strong glow at the gauge end, so the power and earth appear to be good........
Tried fiddling with those two adjustment nuts on the back of it again.... nothing.....
mmmmmm..........
