5 leaf springs on Travellers?

I seem to remember reading somewhere, probably the Lindsey Porter resto manual, that some Traveller owners fit five leaf springs to improve the ride if they don't intend lugging heavy loads. I've not driven mine enough to have a strong opinion on its ride, and will need to fit new springs before I drive it again. Has anyone followed the five leaf route, or is this an urban myth?

take 5 leaf springs or even the 7 leaf ones from the pick up!!!
Use thick 50 oil for the dampers!!

Van/pickup have 8 leaves - but the won't fit the car because the top eyes are the wrong size.

My Traveller's original leaf springs have sagged quite noticeably over the 25 years I've owned it, and the ride is now relatively soft.
However, I prefer the subtly lowered look (front lowered a spline to match), so will be keeping them for the time being.
