Traveller doors

Post by howard jones »

Trying to remove lock-barrel from the rear doors on my ( 69' )traveller. Have got complete replacement with handle etc. but I can't suss' out how to remove the old one ? Is there a 'square' tool needed once the large slotted screw has been removed ( on the inside of the workings ) to undo the handle mounting ?

Why bother if you have a complete replacement with handle?

Thanks Marky - but I can't seperate the handle part from the ''housing''. ( The outside from the ''bar'' mechanism ).

They come as an assembled unit. Remove the screws holding the outer to the wood, and the big screw on the inside end of the square shaft, and remove complete assembly from the door. Refit new item.

Thanks for that - it just seems a bit 'tight' so I will attempt to tap it out from the inside of the door.

Sometimes the square on the handle rusts into the square on the lock mechanism. Try some penetrating fluid something like plus gas. On my 56 traveller I even tried heating it before tapping but ended up drill the old handle out to shift it.

Many thanks David - that also seems to be MY problem, but was unsure if it was a press fit or not.
