Any one know where i can get a new or replacement motor for my heater.
The motor says Smiths FRM 4322 on the back of the motor.
This is the old style round heater. The heater has not worked in a long time.
After getting the the heater out i checked the motor by going direct to the battery.
The motor did not turn the fan - tied the rheostat wires together to eliminate the switch - still no movement.
I checked power through the rheostat switch on it own and it is passing current.
So it looks like i need to replace the motor.

Is there no way to open the motor to check brushes? There was a link in a recent post on this subject to a Co who make suitable motors. Perhaps it was this one? http://www.mmoc.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=43361

Thanks to Dana who had an extra motor - shaft & fan
I got all the parts i needed to fix the heater.

The old motor was rusty inside & the squeeze nut would not release the fan blade & shaft.
At that point i knew not to try to repair the unit.

After getting the new motor, shaft & fan.
I assembled the heater unit.
The motor & rheostat worked when i applied power direct from the battery.
So i think i will be ok when it is installed.
This weekend i will try to get time to install the unit & hook up the wires.
Then i will know for sure.

The mystery for me is - why you would need a heater in California!!

We have all kinds of weather here in California.
I have mountains 2 hours away that have snow.
I am In southern California in the beach area.
Most of the time i turn the heater off at the motor.
Your correct most of the time you do not need a heater in California.
Winter at night we get around 45F average.
It is a wet cold being close to the ocean so a heater is good then too.
I also drive my cars long distances.
Last trip was to Canada. I stayed 4 weeks.
Went over 5000 miles round trip.
My next trip i am going to go to Alaska.
I would like to get my Van going to go this summer.
At this point it looks like it may be next year.

Ohhhh! For Alaska I suggest TWO heaters......

That is why i am shooting for the summer months.
I am not sure how a Morris would fair in a 60f below Zero winter.
I am trying to finish my Van for the trip.
I have had the tourer in the snow.
It really was not that bad - But it was only in the 40f range
And that was after the heater filled the cab.
It took it awhile to accomplish that task.
I know i would freeze my rear off in Alaska in the winter.......lol
My son is in the Army stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska
I figured it would be quite the adventure to pay him a visit.

It can get cold crossing the Golden Gates Bridge when the mist is down

I've only ever done that (3 times) in lovely warm sunshine !
