Maybe someone out there can answer my question. I am the owner of a 1966 Minor Van. In bottom-inside of the reardoors there is a triangle-shaped hole that is not covered at all. Here and there I find pictures of doors that either have covers or are not covered at all. So my question is: are these holes originally covered or not?
If originally covered, which material is used? Metal? Wood? Cardboard?

And if these are original parts, might any of you be able to offer me some?

Please do advise!

P.S. For collectors I have some rare diecast metal van models for sale, plus saloons and travellers etc.

I don't know why some are covered & some aren't I suspect the post office vans where covered to stop mail getting "lost" inside the door cavity.
I have about 6 doors the 2 on my van are open 2 of my extra ones are open and the other 2 are closed. They are closes with steel panels about 1.00mm thick fixed with self tapping screws

Yes all civilian van's didn't have them covered, only GPO and yes made of mild steel and painted gloss black and held on with pozi drive self tappers

Where do you get this duff info from?!!!

Almost as bad as white Wingard mirrors on PO Minor vans, when
in fact they were first fitted to Bedford HA's!

Is anyone interested in facts anymore?!!

They were gloss black on my old post office van, J reg.
May have been different on earlier vans.

What was the regn?

This doesn't make sense as drs were sprayed AFTER this panel was
fitted - confirmed by fixing screws also being painted.

When the GPO experimented with auto-clutch Minor vans, anything's
possible!!

So there we have it, GLOSS blk can be clearly seen under the blue paint!!

Are the drs from a rare 1955 GPO Telephone/Postal/Pick'n'Mix van?

Have to paint 26 green/red or yellow "Triangles" in gloss blk now!!!

I don't know. Those doors are defo yellow underneath the blue. I'll have a go with some emery paper if I get chance, see what it turns up.

when the rear doors had been changed?

They were the original doors, the bar was gone and the hole had a big blob of filler in it.
Same sort of thing on the drivers door, Yale lock gone, replaced with filler.

Did you own this in the late '80s/early '90s?

You didn't carry out these alterations yourself - was it bought DIRECT
from the PO?

Were these panels simply reversed to make it more civilian?

RWL 586J & 273839 - either side of yours, both red.

The conversion to civilian life wasn't done by me, I'd have kept the Yale lock on the drivers door at least.
The clips on the sides appeared to have been chiselled off, some metallic tape put over the holes then some more filler slapped on.
I think it had been painted from the tanker of Blue paint they were all done in but I could be wrong, it's not the only van I've owned.
When I got it just about everything had been sprayed White, trim, rubbers even most of the tyres.
It was the fashion for a short while on new cars, just better executed
I think it still had the manifold restrictor too but that could have been one of the others too.

Chris, yes gloss black, same as the metal door panels on the front doors... I no off two very original vans and thee are all black gloss, minus age scratched and chips.... If you feel I'm wrong that's fine... But I no what I have seen, and no what looks original and been off the road in a barn for many years is genuine. Have a issue with what I say feel free to pm me....don't scare new members of Chris please, we need new members and new people for the success of this forum and the cars, vans etc.. Also be nicer and kinder in your words to current forum members as people are getting upset of late with sharp remarks etc

As promised, one of my old doors with the cover plate sanded down a bit. As you can see doors are now blue, they are yellow under the blue I assume door was ex BT.
So from top to bottom, Blue,Yellow then black and eventually bare steel.[frame][/frame]
