Hi,

Has anyone fitted one of ESM's (Or hadrian's?) larger saloon petrol tanks? It seems it can't be manhandled past the bar that runs along the boot to form the floor.

Is the bar important to the structure or anything, or can I just take it out? I don't have a welder to tac it back on.

don't see that its structural but it does hold the wooden shelf,so would need to be replaced,unless you are going to leave the shelf out.Why not cut it so you leave a section each side then just drill and bolt it back.Such a small bit of welding,a garage would charge very little to spot weld it back on ,so that might be an option.

I fitted a 6.5 gallon tank to my series 2 about a year ago but as it was second hand it was probably from a later
1000 model ,mine was fitted from below by slightly turning it on an angle ,it was a bit of a fiddle but it went in.

We've fitted the larger tank. Try offering it up on it's side from below and then flipping sideways. As it is taller than the original you will have to store the tyre in the boot as there will not be enough clearance under the boot floor for it.

If you find this impossible, remove the metal strip between the wood on the boot floor. You can then screw it back into place as it isn't structural.

Couldn't get it in from underneath, chopped the strip. I can bolt it back together like everyone said.

Did you find it fits into the hole okay? Mine is far to square, looks like I'm going to have to take at least half an inch to an inch of material away in the corners to get it in.

I wouldn't mind, but I thought I'd shell out for a new one to reduce the hassle and expense. I can't even send it back because it's been painted. Very annoyed.
