When removing a half shaft it is unavoidable that oil drips out of
the wheel bearing housing as the shaft is withdrawn. To prevent
the oil contaminating the rear brakes just take a normal plastic
carrier bag and cut it in half so that you have one side of the bag
with its handle in one hand and the other side with handle in the
other hand. if you loop the handle over the rear hub before you
extract the half shaft the oil is deflected safely away.

Maybe it would be safer to drain the oil ,prior to removing the half shaft? It would reduce the possibilty of excess oil coming out ? + use the idea of the bags - good ploy !! Arfron

ARFON.. it makes no difference when you drain the diff oil, there
is ALWAYS some left in the rear hub waiting to drip over your brakes.
