How do I know it will work?

Hi

I have been offered a Lucas Red Box 54413006 condenser, but how do I find out if it's compatible for a Morris minor. I have had two "new Lucas condensers" go on me now, so I am currently using my old original one which is great :D but for a spare I would like a original piece not a Chinese copy in a Lucas box.

Here is a pic[frame]Image[/frame]

The Condensor of a minor should measure 2 microfarad, but I don't know how you can measure it. The only way to test it is to use it and see what results you get.
Does the fixing look the same? If not can you unsolder it to make it fit? If you can try not to use too much heat.

If you have a Series MM fitted with a DKY4A distributor it will be compatible.

Be cautious of old stock condensers. The dielectric insulator that seperates the two plates of a condenser can deteriorate over time, affecting the capacitance and sometimes leading to an internal short circuit.

Some fancy multimeters can measure capacitance. Perhaps you can find a friend with one.

Best way is to fit and see if it works. If it does - leave it in there, and carry the one you remove as the spare.

The Series MM is fitted with a DYKH4A distributor with a long condenser which is soldered to the base plate. Some distributors have the later short condenser screw fitted to the base plate but the screw may be in a different position to that on a 25D distributor.
