I am buying a Minor Van (ex GPO and originally green) with the split screen and opening section on driver's side. It needs resto but none of it is beyond doing at all. Fairly straightforward really. Original bonnet and seats............can anyone let me know how rare these late 50s model are??

Welcome to the messageboard :D

There aren't many of the GPO vans with the opening split screen about, and they are a rare sight at rallies, but I'm not sure exactly how many there are left. I expect someone will be along soon to advise. You might also want to contact / join the LCV Register: http://www.minorlcvreg.co.uk/

And please start a thread in the 'restoration projects' forum here so that people can see your progress :D

Not to many knocking around these days. like all Morris minors, saloons,Travellers, lcv's etc they are rare. And, more than worth the effort to get them back on the road. Look froward to seeing yours ! Hope fully more will turn up. :)[frame]Image[/frame]

Yes! They are very rare and also id say if restored correctly would be worth the most in value out of all the minors .... there is a high demand for good quality vans and pickups and also GPO even more so :)

Its not this one is it ?

If so, I would double check it as the bulkhead is definatly from a post 1964 vehicle and it looks like the whole thing used to be yellow, not green (although the way you describe it is similar to the seller) and it looks like it has been seam welded all the way along the top of the bulkhead, the fresh air intake hose is factory fitted as the pressing is visable below it, the hole for the underdash wiper motor cable to pass through is clearly visable, something that only appeared after the splitscreens finished.
Proceed with caution on this van would be my advice.

I agree Paul but restored correctly would cost as much as the vehicle is worth, these vans are restored as a labour of love.
Everything would have to be done by the owner to stand even a chance, if it saw professional help in any shape or form all would be lost!

It's very obviously not a question of restoring this van - it's certainly NOT what it pretends to be....

Would someone kindly e-mail the seller requesting the cab AND
body numbers?

Month date the donor front end if nothing else!

Looks more like an Engineers body too - if it IS 1955, body
will be numbered.

Very rarely get replies when I ask vendors for body numbers!!!

Wonder Why?!!!

I'll be off here for a while, but e-mail me if urgent!!

I don't think it's you Chris ( well perhaps it is :D ) Anyone being asked for that info would be a little concerned about putting their id numbers about! Although saying that you do get people that present their bank details to folk wandering the streets!
