Yes, it's a good strong engine and will fit if you fit the Moggy engine front plate and modify the front breather flame trap canister to clear the fan. It will fit onto a 1098 gearbox, but if you can get hold of one, the Midget gerabox is identical externally, but much stronger.

make sure it's a RWD A+ !!
If you use the metro or maestro A+ you'll be needing an Ital crank or otherwise facing a big machining bill for the special bits. (The Maestro one does have a rear crank lipseal though)

Dont you need to change the flywheel for a redrilled one on the A+ engine, the same as is needed for the Midget engine.

rayofleamington, you mentioned checking that the engine was RWD, well I've got a spare engine I picked up with engine number that starts with 12HD not 12G as a previous discussion on here talked about. It's out of an MG metro. I currently have an Ital engine in my moggy, will they swap easily?
Cheers

Kevin, yes, you need to get the 6 hole flywheel to fit the Ital crank (available from most Moggy places).

No they won't. It IS possible with a lot of work and parts swapping to get a Metro block installed, but it's hassle and expense and very few people do it. You would be better off sticking with the Ital block and having it re-machined and blueprinted instead.

The engine backplate needs to be altered too, as the oil pump cover is a little bit larger in diameter and slightly offset from the original. The aperture for the crank also needs enlarging. The top dowel hole should be opened up to suit the dowel pin used on the Ital.
