Merry Christmas all.

I'm about to fit the front seats to my traveller and am wondering about the metal plates that sit under the seat clamps.
Do they go above or below the carpet?

I would of said above, my virgin 4dr NMO 603's certainly was!

Protect the carpet from the front seat bar - whether 2dr/Trav's were
any different(?)

I have mine below the carpet, as the hole are ofset to cover the spare bolt holes used to move the seat forward/back

There's been a thread about this previously and the general consensus was that they go under the carpet to cover the spare bolt holes to prevent water getting in: http://www.mmoc.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f= ... eat+plates

If you ever watch QI, this is kind of "Nobody Knows". Both arguments are correct. I always fit below the carpet, to cover the bolt holes, but when I have worked on what I believe to be original car, the plates are on top of the carpet.

Postals had their pass seat holes filled with mastic.

Above the carpet. I line the hole in the bracket, plate and the floor up with a Philips screw driver whilst I fit the bolt through the other hole. I block off the spare holes with short bolts.

After reading the other thread, that's exactly what I intend on doing.
That way I get the carpet protected from wear and also keep out any water by sealing the unused holes.
