Owner got bored halfway through the restoration perhaps?

I made one of these in the late 1980's as pictured below and went around all the shows in the South with it, including the London to Brighton fun run as in the 2nd of the pictures

I've seen several photos of them, though never one in the flesh. I never understood why so many were made from saloon backs, when the Traveller - in both chassis and shape - is far better suited!

I guess it's because people want a trailer to match their car, and if you have a traveller you don't have so much need for a camping trailer (although there are some traveller trailers about). Plus a saloon trailer is better - aerodynamically - for towing so saves petrol

also, what's the most expensive and difficult to maintain bit of a traveller?!

I saw my first one "in the flesh" at the Brooklands Austin-Morris day in March this year[frame]

The owner also had a scale model of his "rig" displayed on the roof.

I'm sure I've seen a company advertise (on eBay) that they make these to order - so the current seller's claim that it is "one of a kind" isn't quite true.
At the Traveller at 60 event (Gaydon in September), there were a couple of examples of "camping trailers" for Travellers.
These were not made of Traveller rear halves, but custom made wood and metal panel units and were very complimentary.
George.

Seem to remember one made from two rear ends joined over the wheelarch so you get two boot lids if that makes sense. Not much internal space but it looked neat and quite streamlined, in either direction!

Haha! That is absolutely fantastic! I love it!!
@MattTomkins
True, but it doesn't need to go through an MOT, and most trailers are wooden anyway. Just struck me as something that was easier to modify. But can't deny the workmanship that has to go into a saloon back is far more impressive!

I've got hold of the picture of the Traveller Trailer (low resolution) as seen at Gaydon (there were 2 of slightly different layout).[frame]

This one was set up as a small caravan.
