Seeing the Grey split saloon for sale on the front page of the forum and also our spares manager Bryans split screen traveller pictured recently my question is please , both show that the centre section of the grille is the same as the lowlight model ie chromed/silver ,was this an extra on the series 2 or just done to make the grille appear to look better by the individual car owners

My MM was converted in 1951 and has a one piece painted lowlight front. Any ideas where it came from. Picture coming later.[frame]

[/frame] The grill has since been painted in Birch Grey. Thanks for the info folks. Merry christmas folks and a happy new year when it comes.

Originally when the new MM ‘highlight’ models were introduced, the front panel was made up of two separate pressings.
The grill section was chrome plated, but this changed after the chrome shortages in 1951 during the Korean war. As a result the separate panel was offered for a limited time as an optional extra until stocks were depleted. After this period the panel became a one piece pressing. On black cars the grill section was painted in Birch grey, other colours were painted body colour.

Hi Tony
Your centre cheesegrater section should be finished in Birch Grey.
