Just a quick check...

If I've just done my Alternator Conversion and started up the car, and the red charging light goes out after about 4 seconds, then my conversion is working right?
And you end up with four disconnected leads? the two from the dynamo, and the two leads on the regulator (F and D?)

That sounds about right if my memory serves......... so you removed the regulator box, disconnected the internals, connected A to A1 and put it back as a junction box? I think I left the connections to F and D in place but disconnected them internally, then chopped the dynamo connection wires off where they go into the loom at the dynamo end.

For the time being, I just disconnected F and D - A and A1 are as they were...
I was going to check that everything worked okay with the multimeter, but that, erm... doesn't want to work today

Does it tell you to do that in the instructions that came with the conversion?? I'm sure disconnecting F and D is fine (Field and Dynamo) but I'm not sure about A and A1 being left as they are.........

Yeah... I used the kit from ESM... It just said leave A1 and A as they are, and disconnect F and D

Fair enough then!! I did not have any instructions when I did mine as I did it from bits, I just looked at what was connected to what inside the regulator. That's why I was not certain, but if ESM say leave it then that's what you do!!

That's what it said on my instructions from Bull Motif, I think... I used the instruction sheet as a page-marker some months ago, but can't find it now...

if the charging light goes out fairly quickly, then it should be ok. Check the fanbelt tension, and maybe consider raising the idle speed a little to get the unit spinning slightly faster. I've had the kit for a while now, and leaving A1 and A connected at the regulator appears to have done no harm.

Quite possibly, Kevin, quite possibly...

There should be no need to increase the tickover since an Alternator
has a smaller diameter pulley so it turns over faster than a dynamo.

You could always fit a smaller pulley anyway if you wish (plenty suitable ones in the scrapyards usually). I fitted a bigger one to mine because of the higher revs used.
