can anyone give me some advice on changing the switch,i tryed yesterday with a socket on the switchand mole grips but did ont want to force it .i have put wd40on .the switch is 18 months old so should come off easy .is ot possiable to clamp the 3way union and then undo the switch .

You must hold the union otherwise you will strain the brake pipes!

As Les says, it must be done.
Jam something between the 3 way and the body to stop it moving when you undo the switch.
The amount of time is irrelevant if it's been over tightened

But why is it being changed after 18 months??? It's that 'waterless' coolant.....told you it was a bad idea......

not my car roy it must be one of the batch of dodgy ones .my girlfriends one failed after 18 months .i did manage to put a g clamp on the 3 way union and stop the switch from turning ,did not go mad tightning it up .brake lights work now .as for the waterless coolant it will pay for its self in a few years ,its my money and i am prepared to try new ideas .

I don't think it's specifically a dodgy batch. They are all utter junk and seldom last over a year in my experience. I've just fitted a second-hand 50 year-old one as it's better than the new junk. This would be an excellent one for the club to look in to - as brake switches are a fairly safety critical item, and we can't buy ones that are fit for purpose, perhaps the club could investigate sourcing or manufacturing a reliable batch. Don't worry, I'm not holding my breath!
