Hi
While I was waxoiling my car I noticed a steel cable coming from the back of my smooth case gearbox. It comes out the back through the crossmember and to a adjuster on the back of the cross member, does anyone know what it is for? A steady? Mine is broken just before the crossmember :-?

Someone told me that this cable limits the forward movement of the gearbox/engine to stop it moving forwards into the radiator, it was also broken on mine. 8)

It is there to stop the engine and gearbox moving forwards under heavy braking and the fan touching the rad.
When fitted it should not be under any tension, but shouldn't be slack either.

Early cars didn't have it fitted......but you SHOULD fit one asap. And as above - not tight -just 'nipped up' .
