When I saw the subject I thought one had turned up in the back of a customs shed somewhere!

I would suspect they (MG A and Minors) are being sent off to Vancouver Canada in a "Completely Knocked Down" condition. They arrived in NZ in CKD condition but I never knew what that was. Maybe this is what they called CKD. No containers back then. Many had salt spray problems when they arrived in NZ as they were often deck cargo.

A requirement of H M Customs was to have the chassis no stamped on the crate, this allowed them to then processes the Drawback(clearly seen on the top rail of the crate) scheme of Excise duty refunded to Morris Motors that they were entitled to under the permanent export laws,
the payments were usually made when the car was secured in the export warehouse at the docks )this allowed the exporter to gain a faster release of the duty paid
and just a note these cars are not CKD versions which were crated unassembled
all that's missing are the wheel's they were secured much better without them for the sea voyage, also it reduced the height (not by much just 6 inches) which was lost with the packing crate, allowing more stowage on board
the year is around the late 50,s
note, thanks to Goggle for the abovementioned

Seems there were two options. PKD (partially knocked down) or CKD (completely knocked down). The above pic is a PKD. See here
