Before I dismantle the carb - or even order any parts, despite looking at several diagrams I cannot locate the O ring/seal whatever that is apparently (allegedly) allowing my Morris to burn silly amounts of oil.

Please can anyone explain or illustrate where it is?

No, the oil consumption is not from the engine, that has been rebuilt. I'm talking about how the dash-pot needs filling every 50 miles give or take.

There has also been some deiseling - it runs after the ignition is turned off. I'm guessing this is due to carbon build-up associated with this problem, although it has just been re-timed having been very retarded by accident...

I have a mini carb which I thought about using but it seems complex/costly and I'd be happy with less problems and reliability. Comments re this will be read with interest, though I think I'll be flogging it:)

which oil are you using for the carb dashpot?
20/50 engine oil should last ages

It's only the tube in the middle that needs any oil at all.
I'm not sure how that tube joins to the slide as I've never had any reason to try and separate them.

Is it actually running empty, or just running low very quickly? From my experience, a top-up every few hundred miles is necessary and the oil level very rarely stays above the inner ring.

The dash pot only needs sufficient oil to fill to the top of the dash pot with the damper piston pushed down the tube. It will automatically draw any excess oil into the carb and into the engine, giving the impression of high oil consumption. Once the oil has found its correct level it should only need occasional topping up

As above - it only needs a tiny amount - STOP topping it up!
