-----and the hole size is determined by the size of the fixing.

Personally I wouldn't fit wing mirrors... they can get in the way when servicing, ie dizzy work leaning over the wing, they can cause corrosion where there mounted, jealous people can and do knock them and can damage the wing and or mirror, you cant use a regular car cover if you ever wanted or needed too... get a clamp quarter light window door mirror, clamps on means no damage, easy to change and or take off!

7" from wing fnt to where the drill bit goes, is on PO vans anyway.

Hope this helps.

thanks for the reply guys
wings are fibre glass and cars kept in garage, so no worrys with corrosion or car cover, just people at car shows
already had a door mirror smashed off outside coventry motor museum
trying to get the car looking to how it was originaly, i have a picture from 1962 of it as it had wing mirrors back then :D
7" sounds about right, i new it was around that sort of number but wasnt 100% sure

If fibreglass wings a defo no no, as cant tighten very secure as most fibreglass wings are thin the wing will crack at the mounting point if knocked... upto you... also if you have had a clamp of door mirror broken then there easy to replace and no real damage, if it was on a wing be alot more damage....just giving you my honest opinion

Cannot blame German bombs on the smashed mirror!

Bung a slightly larger washer on top & a reinforcing plate underneath.

That's the sort of stupid thing I'd do - originality v practicality!!Pp

going to modify some massive pan washers so spread the load abit. will come up with a solution to reinforce the area. maybe extra fibreglassing under the wing.

(Agreed - its just very nice to maintain that 'period of the time' look)
Do advise they are of the 'spring back" spring loaded arm type though (e.g.like the old original Desmo type fitted on mine in the 60's)
Just feel the car would look a bit naked without them after all this time!

I certainly wouldn't retrofit them, you can see enough on them if they are fitted and adjusted properly but you have to locate them first which takes me longer than looking at the quarter-light area.
I suspect that they are much less aerodynamic than door mounted ones.

I quite like the wing mirror look. On my car the holes in the wing are equivalent to the ends of the bumper valance.
