wheel cylinder cross reference (same as midget?)

Hi All,
I need to replace the rear wheel cylinders and brake shoes on my '68 sedan. On this side of the pond Minor parts are really hard to come by, but MG Midget parts suppliers are all over the place. I just want to double check that the cylinders and shoes are the same for the late Minor and the MG Midget from (c)13555 to 16183. That would be the 7/8" bore wheel cylinder correct?

Many thanks!

With the introduction of disc brakes on the Midget, the rear brakes were also changed to a double piston cylinder, but the MInor never got this design. I believe early drum Spritgets have the same rear cylinders as 948 Minors.

Okay thanks for the advice. I'll just order the Minor parts and wait on shipping.

Cheers

Hmmm - didn't know that - perhaps an upgrade for a Minor then! Presumably that will be the Mini rear brake parts then? Just looked at the MOSS diagrams - and does look very much the Mini system - and possibly the same parts, but different backplate of course.

The 1098 rear wheel cylinders are 3/4" bore, it is the 948 that are 7/8".

The later Spritget rear brakes mount directly to a Minor with one concern, the handbrake. Spritgets have the lever exiting behind the axle. For a Minor the plates need to be rotated so that the cylinder is at top and the brake lever is horizontal, towards the front. However, the clevis connection is farther away from the cable mounting point so that more cable is exposed and to ease the exit angle a longer cable sheath is recommended. The use of passenger brake cables on a truck solves the latter issue and an extension to the threaded end of the cable solved the former. Few advantages except the handbrake is a bit more effective.
