Almost certainly it will be 11 as POMMreg suggests -probably a piece of corrosion making it look like an M

Your right...in a way....on my moggy chassis plate it does indeed say 1/1 ....so it's an original 53 tourer...but some thicko has put on my log book an...m... Instead of the 1/1 it should be....it can be mistaken at a quick glacé on the chassis as am m though...so does anyone no what I can do about it...cheers

This usually happened when the vehicle was MOT'd before the most recent system was introduced. MOT tester wrote down details and then entered them onto computer. I have a car with a missing number in the chassis.
You can fill in the section of your current log book correcting the mistake and hope that DVLA take notice.

Yes, just contact the DVLA and let them know. I had a similar problem where the MOT tester entered a different number on the MOT certificate to the one on the V5. DVLA wrote to me to query this and I just informed them that as the chassis plate is so old it is difficult to read and the MOT tester had made a mistake.
By the way, your chassis number of 172094 indicates that it was built in late 1952, not '53.

The "/" mistaken for a "7" is a common one.
Fair few boobs done at the factory also - pick up's with van
chassis plates, even a M/AS25 about too!
DVLA have to deal with so many vehicle makes and their
different chassis/vin codes/numbers - certainly wouldn't
label them as "thicko's", we all make mistakes!

Ok mate.
Will have to put my Dennis Wheatley books away now!
Rub the Pentagram off the laminate too.
Both the "Maximus Voodoo doll" & "Maximus Guy" have
since been destroyed.
