Hi
My new brake light has just a red and blue wire.
The old one that I am replacing has a red, black and light purple wire.
How do I connect the new to the old?
I assumed it would be red to red and blue to black leaving the purple redundant?

I think you old light would have been a combined rear and brake light that why it had three wires. Look at the bulbs to confirm, the old one would have two connections on the bottom and the new one only one.

Both new and old bulbs have two connectors.

Its ok I have just replaced the rubber, chrome, red reflector dome and kept the original wiring which is working fine

Its done now, new cover same old electrics.[frame][/frame]

Hmm - that is a side/brake light - so will have 3 wires...... Better with the proper Lucas bee-hive lenses really if you can find them.

Red - Side/tail, Black - Earth, Other - Brake Light

Hard to find the original Lucas dome. Its better than what was there anyway, some flimsy oversized plastic dome with no rubber seal hanging off by one screw LOL.
As for the electrics in my car, would find more sense in the Bermuda Triangle! Still haven't got my interior light and Horn working

The clue is the interior light and horn are both on the same fuse

The other common factor between horn and interior lights is that they are both switched on the return (earth) side, unlike anything else on the car. This can be puzzling at first for anyone who isn't aware, and hasn't had a look at the circuit diagram, and these people probably keep fuse makers in business when they fault-find.

Sorry but I am still non the wiser with horn/light.
Lets start with this question
Where is the fuse for horn and interior light?

Assuming a standard loom... main fuse block.
Input/ power is a Brown wire ( from Control box )....... feed to Horn and Interior and Door / Courtesy lights Is a Purple wire.

Put your Multi meter ( 20 volts DC range ) on the Brown wire and a good earth... to establish that 12 volts is getting to the fuse first of all.
Disconnect the battery and then remove the fuse, clean it up with sand paper / emery paper and test it Multi meter on Ohms this time to establish that the fuse is good.Clean the fuse holder clips and remove any rust / dirt.
With 12volts present and a good fuse to these components you will be on the right tracks. Re connect battery and test horn and lights.We'll see how you get on.

Thursday night 9pm and my car wouldn't start in the works car park. I called RAC and after 30 mins of waiting they informed me I had a flat battery. They jump started it and it got me home.
Put new battery in and low and behold the horn is now working, so is the interior light but the only problem with the light is that I cannot switch it off so I have simply removed the bulb until I can work out why.
Horn is ok it now turns "On and Off" at the touch of a switch.

Light works but stays on even when car is off.
I removed the bulb.

is the metal plate (switch contact) between the brown/black wire & the black wire touchung both if it is thats why lights on.

No its stays on even when the slide plate is not touching the brown connection.

Then I would look at the door pillar switches. Pull them out and make shure they're not touching earth then check if light goes out.

OR remove the brown/black wire if light goes out it's a door pillar switch or the wire has come off the pillar switch and is touching the body
