Indicator lamp intermittent fault

Post by redduster »

The indicator lamp on the stalk was intermittent and has now stopped entirely.
Replaced with new lamps and no difference.
Checked continuity of the wiring from the flasher unit, light green wire, and appears OK in both positions, left and right.
External indicators work.
I did spray electrical contact cleaner on it and wonder if this could be causing it?
Could the flasher have a fault that could produce this fault?

I shall refrain from the usual flasher joke. Intermittent ? now it's on, now it's off, now it's on !

Although you've sprayed contact cleaner on the stalk end and checked continuity, it might still be a dirty contact / connection on the flasher " can " or switch/ mini loom.
Did you "wiggle " the wires when doing the continuity test ? Sometimes a break will not show up on undisturbed wires, whereas a bit of gentle pulling and tugging, will throw up a fault.

The Green / Brown wire attaching...flasher unit to flasher switch...needs looking at as well.Look at the end of the little mini loom, where the steering column joins the support bracket / dashboard area. You're looking for an individual bullet connector ( there are half a dozen or so from memory under there ) the Green / Brown one. There maybe a dirty connection there.Clean up with emery / sand paper and reattach.

With everything working OK, other than the light, it will be either a dirty connection ( most likely ) or a chafed wire. Are both bulbs new and old still working ?
