I changed the swivel pins and trunnions today on my Minor. I bought these as kits from Bull Motif earlier in the year. The trunnions were packed in separate bags with nuts washers and rubber bushes etc. The lower trunnions had two rubber bushes with them, which I could not place, as my old trunnions did not have them and there was nowhere I could see to fit them.
Please see picture attached. Can anyone tell me where these bushes belong. I did think they might be for the eye bolt which attaches the lower suspension arms to the chassis leg, but if so, why would they be supplied with the trunnions?

Yes, for the eye bolt. Whilst you've got the suspension stripped down for the trunnions, then it's usually worthwhile changing those bushes too, hence they're in the kit. Kits can be a good idea, but it does annoy me when one cannot purchase the individual components if that's all one needs.

And in any case - polyurethane bushes would be much better in the eyebolt.....

I thought I'd already posted a reply but it seems to have got lost. Many thanks for the information. It would appear that the sundry bits and pieces for the legs and trunnions were packed as kits in themselves. The rubber bushes were in a bag with bits for the bottom trunnions- fulcrum bar, rubber boot and grease seals and some nuts and washers. It may be that the eye bolt fulcrum bar is the same as the one which passes through the trunnion, although it has a different part number on Bull Motif's website. As I've never changed an eye bolt bar I have no way of knowing, but if it's a one kit fits all, then this would explain the inclusion of the eye bolt rubber bushes. Thanks again for your interest.

The bottom trunnion pin and the eye bolt pin are of different dimensions and so have different part numbers. Changing the eye bolt bushes is relatively easy. Give everything a good soak with release oil before attempting to dismantle. Plenty of information on this site to help you along.

I'm sure I've replaced a worn eye bolt pin with an old bottom trunnion pin in the past.

The two pins are of a different diameter.
The trunnion pin (Pt No: SUS157) is 17.42mm diameter.
The eye bolt pin (Pt No: SUS105 is 12.65mm diameter.
So the two pins are not interchangeable.
You may have used a rear spring shackle pin (Pt No: SUS719) as a replacement for an eye bolt pin as they are the same size as the eye bolt pin. I do not know why they have different part numbers even though they are the same part?
As regards threads there is a tendency these days to fit UNF threads to replacement suspension components and I have NOS with both BSF and UNF threads on the shelf. Whilst the BSF threads are ok I prefer the suspension parts with UNF threads. I am no purist and use what I consider the best for my application.

I've just tried one of the old trunnion pins in these rubber bushes and they are much larger in diameter. The bushes are probably in the trunnion kit because they have some new kid making up the kits and he's put them in by mistake. Who knows? Maybe I give Bull Motif a ring next week and ask them!

The eye bolt pin and rear shackle pin are the same part number - AAA1407 and were 3/8" BSF originally, but now probably more commonly 3/8" UNF.

(The trunnion pin was 3/8" UNF originally.) This is wrong, they were all 3/8" BSF.

I suppose the eye bolt and shackle pins were 'body' and so BSF, whereas the trunnion pin was 'mechanical' and so UNF? Edit - no all BSF.

The lower trunnion pins originally fitted to my 1958 Minor had BSF threads and a screwdriver slot in one end.

Ah, ours is also a 1958, November, but as part of the restoration ~20 years ago I replaced the both suspension swivel assemblies with 'new to me' ones, complete with trunnion pins.

Looking at a 1966 copy of the Parts Manual, the nuts for eye bolt pin, rear shackle pin and trunnion pin are all the same part number, but it doesn't say what the thread is! Looking up the part number (AJD8106Z) in Google comes up with MG TF etc. and 3/8" BSF, so looks like mine are 'wrong'.
