Car stereo mounting

Hi all,

I have something along the lines of this:

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stor ... yId_165474

It came with the basic metal cage etc. Would it be possible to mount it in this:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CLASSIC-MINI- ... 19db98798c

And then sling the whole thing under the dash? As far as I can tell the only difference between the 'underdash cages' is single din and double din and I believe my stereo to be single. Would the stereo fit OK?

Thanks in advance,

Chris

Looks fine.
Is the car converted to negative earth? It needs to be if you want to fit any modern electronics.

Thanks Mark. Yes it is. Have been messing around for months inbetween work trying to cleverly fit the stereo into the dash. I'm going to give up for now and opt for this!
Many thanks, Chris

I mounted a Halfords sterio as this photo without a box.

Hi Pete,

What method did you use?

Chris

The sterio came from Halfords with its own 'cage' which I bolted upwards to the underside of the dashboard.

I also mounted the speakers under the dash facing downwards which you can make out in one of the photos. I didn't want to cut holes in the door cards or kidney panels.

The black tape is just holding the iPod cable out of the way.

Good luck

I mounted a slightly older version of that pioneer in exactly that box you describe - albeit in a slightly different place (where the heater used to be). Yes it will work and look quite elegant. You may need to adapt something so that all 4 tabs are screwed to something solid. There's a big circular hole on the underside and one of the taps might correspond to it.

I think I padded it slightly with old camping mat foam ensuring any cooling vents not blocked.

Heed MarkyB's post above about being negative earth though.[frame]Image[/frame]

Hi,
Where did you get your plastic radio tray from to mount it under the dash? I've been looking for a tidy looking one for a while and yours looks quite smart.
Many thanks.
Mike.

Knowing how easy it is to get past old door locks, it may be politic to fit it behind the lidded side glove box and hide the speakers in the footwells.
Outasight outamind.
