Dear all,

Does anyone have the power curve (power versus revs) for the standard 1098? Or even seen one? I know we're supposed to get 48 H.P. at 5200 (?) rpm but I suspect's only with a very good engine on a very good day. Unfortunately the Vizard in his bible "Tuning the A Series Engine" only gives curves for modified engines, and heavily modified at that.

Really? I thought there was normally a standard engine curve for comparison.

Edit; I just had a look, some graphs have the standard curve but not all. Some have measurements which may well refer to the standard set up.

I've been right through Vizard and all I can see as standard curves are for the 850 (page 457 - only 20 HP at the wheels!),the standard 1275 (page 458) and the standard 1275 Metro (page 489). I'm blowed if I can find a curve for a 1098, but if you know where it , please give me a clue!

Vizard doesn't over concern himself with the 1098 - since it was rarely fitted to Minis, but also because it snaps the crank if revved over 6,000. Just think of it as a 998 - but with less revs available......
Max torque for most versions was 60 ft lb at 2,500 rpm, rising to a giddy 65 ft lb at 3,500 rpm for the Mk III Spridget......

You are absolutely right Mike, I've just always read std. as 1098 as I'm more interested in the comparative difference of the modifications.
